Friendly: Nathaniel can smile and have a nice conversation with some one but he fears getting too close and won't let that happen.
Nervous: He can get a little nervous from time to time and avoid eye contact and give one or two word replies.
Fearful: He has a tendency to freak out when touched. He doesn't like intimacy but the sad part is he craves it. He's afraid but at the same time wants it.
Good Intentions: He means well and he wants to make friends and be as normal as he possibly can but that never seems to happen for him.
Secretive: He hates talking about his past or his phobia or reasons for it. He hates getting too detailed because that's like getting to close even if it isn't physically close.
Pacifist: Nathaniel is not even a little bit violent. He can't bring himself to physically hurt someone and barely fights back. He tries to talk things out but that doesn't always go according to plan.

Nathaniel was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was neglected as a child. Raised just by a mother who was barely there (and even when she was, she hardly paid much attention to him at all because she was an alcoholic), he learned to do things for himself. She never showed him any affection and even when he did manage to make a friend in school he'd freak out at a simple hug because he just didn't know how to react or what to do with it. That meant fewer friends over time and then none.

He kept to himself but the damage was done. Not only was there neglect but also abuse from a number of boyfriends his mother had which in a sick way was the only kind of attention he ever got. One even took to sexually abusing the boy but thankfully that didn't last more than 6 months and Nathaniel quickly took to pretending it never happened. Still, the damage was done. He hated being touched, mostly when its unexpected. He can deal with a hand shake and simple things like that, most of the time because he knows it'll happen and expecting it makes it easier but anything intimate is much, much worse.
He was at Hawthorn when he was about 15 or 16 and went away for about a year because his mother pulled him out of school. She kept him basically locked in the house to clean and cook and take care of things because she was still an alcoholic and couldn't do things on her own. Whenever the social worker lady came by, everything had to be perfect and he had to pretend to be fine but one day he caught her before she left and told her he needed to get out of there but he didn't was to just be taken away and put some place else which was how he ended up back at Hawthorne since the doctors might stand a chance of helping him.
