I JUST WANNA RUN, HIDE IT AWAY
RUN BECAUSE THEY'RE CHASING ME DOWN
I JUST WANNA RUN, THROW IT AWAY
RUN BECAUSE THEY'RE CHASING ME DOWN
I JUST WANNA RUN, THROW IT AWAY
Topher found it hard to sleep most nights because he didn’t like reliving his past in his nightmares. He didn’t like thinking about what happened to him because he would get all shaky and his heart would beat too fast and it wasn’t very pleasant, of course Topher was afraid, but he didn’t even recognize his own fear. When he had nightmares Topher would wake up, sometimes covered in sweat, with his heart beating too fast and shaking from head to toe feeling like he had to get away. He would have to tell Miss Cooper about this eventually, so she could confirm that what he was feeling was fear because Topher had an inkling that he was afraid from the notecards his brothers had provided him, but other than that he was clueless.
Going to bed wasn’t the problem for Topher, that’s why he could go to sleep at eleven o’clock at night with ease. However the problem as when he woke up he found it very hard to get back to sleep and that is what happened when Topher woke up at two o’clock in the morning for a second time that night. The first time he woke up he was screaming, which really wasn’t that rare, but after pacing around his room for an hour he was back to sleep at one o’clock, but yet again he was awake at two from a nightmare involving one of Vick’s lessons on being a man…
Now Topher knew he couldn’t stay in this small room, so he put on his slippers and padded down the hallway for a while. He couldn’t stay locked up in his room after reliving that, he needed to make sure he had a way out. It was two in the morning, which would explain why Topher was fine with wearing the tank top he wore to bed and sweatpants. Usually he refrained from wearing tank tops because they showed more skin and scars than usual. He had no problem with his scars but people stared at them a lot and he didn’t like it, it made him feel like something was living under his skin, so he usually kept covered up. It wasn’t as if he was walking around shirtless so the majority of the larger scars were covered.
As he roamed the halls he was unfortunate enough to come across someone on the night crew. Some of the staff at Hawthorne didn’t mind the kids roaming the halls late at night, but then there were the handful that did mind. Topher just so happened to run into an older woman that didn’t think Topher should be out of bed. She said he should only be up at this hour to go to the bathroom, which actually now that she mentioned it Topher actually did have to go to the bathroom. See Topher would never use the bathroom as an excuse or cover story; he probably would’ve gone back to his room if she hadn’t mentioned the restroom in the first place.
In the public restroom Topher was always uncomfortable. He didn’t like using the urinals because they were too public, so he would always go into the stalls to do his business. It seemed kind of ridiculous for a six foot six inch, not so scrawny guy like Topher to be uncomfortable like he was most of the time, but appearances didn’t tell everything. Oddly enough when he was in the stall he heard the door open. Well it wasn’t unheard of for someone else to have to take a late night leak too. So he didn’t think anything of it when he walked out of the stall to wash his hands when another boy was in the restroom with him.
