FIFTEEN ● SOPHOMORE ● PERSONALITY DISORDER
GABRIELLA CALTHORPE
Cate was someone who knew a lot about nothing. She grew up pretty normally, honestly. No mind boggling sadnesses that destroyed her life and tore it from the stable place it once was at. (I promise) Well, Okay, so she did have something that did destroy a part of her life, and that's what gave her MPD, but that isn't something that bugs her now, because she's come to terms with it.
Now, lets start with the terminology for MPD:
'Normally a person with two or more personalities inside of their mind. The personalities may be strong enough to come out and speak through the persons body.'
That's what Cate's doctor had said, anyway. Cate had second degree MPD, meaning her other personalities had the ability to come out and speak through her mouth. Yes, she gets aggravated at it, and yes, she can't hear them. She just feels as though she's not thinking for a little bit, or doing anything. Almost like sleeping. She also knows who her personalities are, her Psycho doctor made them all keep a journal that Cate and only Cate could read.
So... Catelynn grew up as a normal girl. As normal as a girl with a mother who was a prosthetic surgeon and a father who was a Pediatrician could be. Sure, her family had money, that was an up side, but then she was almost always home alone. Not that she cared, she enjoyed solitude, it helped her clear her mind. And her family did still get out and do things together, like the picture perfect movie nights, or the magazine worthy picnic's on the beach. Ridiculous family events that never really caught the interest of Catelynn. Not that she was really a rebellious child, just that solitude was her more preferred thing to do.
But, around the age of nine, she went to a friends house. Her first sleepover, and her friend had forgotten to tell her to be careful around her mom's boyfriend. The boyfriend didn't have a good history, and he had been known to touch younger girls. He hadn't been arrested yet, but what was that to her? She didn't know any better. Late that night, when everyone but Catelynn was asleep (or so she thought) Her friends mom's boyfriend creeped into her friends room and picked Cate up; carrying her into the basement, in a little locked room, the walls thickly padded with insulation... there, he touched her... and did bad things to her. That is what gave her MPD.
She never told, at least; not for two years. Her MPD stayed in a thin form, barely covering Cate up. Her parents, her doctors, teachers, and friends never noticed anything wrong with her. Not till two years later, when she was eleven, shopping at the Mall with her mom for school clothes. The man who had raped her was a cashier at one of her favorite stores, and when she saw him, her entire Cate personality crashed down, and in replacement, was Rose. Rose was a sixteen year old bad-ass who didn't care who she hurt. She knew Cate hadn't told her mother about the rape yet, so she was going to. Get the cat outta the bag; for good.
“Hey, Mom, you see that cashier? Yeah....” She paused, making her sound more anxiously nervous to say it, “He...he dated my friend Cassidy's mom for a while.... you remember her?” She spoke quickly, stumbling over her words, “And well, remember when I spent the night over there for the first time?” She asked, looking up at her, “He, uh, t-t-touched me..” She added quietly, giving a huge smack on the back for her performance to herself. Rose was proud of the acting, but as soon as the words left her mouth, Cate returned.
“Cate! What are you talking about?” Her mother, worried, asked. Cate had no clue, and was taken to a Psychiatrist, and there, was the beginning of her tale. She tried to go to regular schools, but it never worked. She just didn't fit in, her personalities were to sporadic and surprising. So, at the very end of ninth grade (her birthday was two months away) her mother discovered Hawthorne Academy. A school for the royally insane. As much as Catelynn screamed about going there (as did Rose, Jeanette, and Angel) they decided that it was the best place for her. They'd let her stay at her regular school until the end of the year, which was kind enough on their part.
Maybe the MPD could be blamed on the rapist, or maybe it could be blamed on Genetics.... Whatever the case, Catelynn Joy Ross ended up living a hellish life, even though she never even let it bother her. People say that MPD is caused by stress, and fears. When something traumatic happens to you, your mind creates a different person, stronger than what you are, to deal with it. That, we know, is where Rose came from. But then there are Jeanette and Angel. Angel is a five year old pianist prodigy, and Jeanette is a fifteen year old dancer. Catelynn doesn't hold any of these talents like the other girls that share her mind do, and yet, when they take over, she can do them as well as if she's been doing them her entire life. There's got to be a method to the madness behind her, and apparently, Hawthorne can help her find out.
Well, at the end of the summer, Catelynn said goodbye to all of her friends, Cassidy, Mack, and Ally... Her three best friends, people she wished she could stay with forever. As she packed her clothes and said her goodbyes, every so often one of her other personalities would jump out and say goodbye too... It's not like they weren't friends with them all. Cass, Mack, and Ally all understood Cate's problem, and knew that it didn't change her, so they accepted the other versions of Cate as well.
And now it's time for the roller coaster called...
her life.

"Lysander turned around and gave her a supportive smile after saying a few words that were supposed to make her stop stuttering and blushing. it helped a little bit, her hair faded a bit to a darker red, mixed with black, and her blush went away; leaving her with wide green eyes and light freckles lining her cheeks. She had chosen freckles for today because she thought that they lined her cheekbones nicely, giving her face more of a bubbly look, instead of her usual gaunt face.
"A-" She gulped, and took a deep breath, swearing not to stutter, "Alright.. I'm Gabby, obviously." She attempted a smile, which she felt seemed more like a grim expression, almost as though someone died. She couldn't see herself, other than the little bit in Lysander's glasses; and she looked odd, with her hair barely curling, and her freckles. It was a cute look, but it was something only certain people could pull off, and Gabby felt as though she couldn't. Damn her French body shape...and size! It made her so awkward, gangly even.
"Hehe, A-" She took a deep breath, to hide the stuttering, "Are you ready to dance?" She asked, a natural smirk appearing on her face. She wanted to break out of this shell, and if anything, she wanted to break out of it with Lysander, who said that he had been through the same things as she was going through, just when he was younger. So he was used to it. At least, she hoped he was. She decided to be random (for a second time in one day, this was getting scary!) so she grabbed his hand and attempted to pull him out into the rain. She was excited to begin dancing and having fun with him, he looked and seemed like a fun person.
"Iguana with Chicken Pox really fits you, Ly." She decided to fit a little nickname in there, something that she had come up with while they had been IM-ing back and forth, but something she had been too nervous to do. Something about him made her want to be more sporadic and weird. Something about him was spectacular for her. (It's a post on a old site of mine)" [/center]
