»PERSONALITY•
Before the crash Sawyer was a very lighthearted kind of guy. He had this air about him that just drew people in. Maybe it was his self deprecating humor or the fact that he would befriend and help the down trodden or that he would laugh at the dumbest jokes. He wasn’t the stereotypical asshole jock that is always depicted in movies or on the television. He was known for his wide and stupid grin, the same grin he got every time something good happened, like he scored a point in basketball or threw a good pass in football. Now though that smile doesn’t appear that often. He’s rather sullen, but sometimes he attempts to be his old self but something always feels missing. He doesn’t like people helping him or looking down on him so it tends to set him off a bit, but he really wouldn’t hurt anybody on purpose.

»BITTERSWEET HISTORY•
Lanette and James were high school sweethearts. They met their freshman year and started dating their junior year. In the small town that they lived in people just thought that they’d probably get married a year or two after high school, but when Lanette went off to NYU and James went off to UCLA they agreed to break up, give each other space and if it was meant to be they would somehow find each other again. Four years went by and Lanette and James didn’t see each other or talk to each other actually, it was when they both happened to visit back home after graduation that they met. Well they were happy to see each other… and well a missed period, five months they got married, and three after that they had Holden.
It was a good thing that Lanette and James never really got over the other, always comparing who they were with to the other. Almost two years after Holden was born Sawyer was too. Holden and Sawyer were like a classic brotherly duo. They fought with each other but would play together until they passed out in the front lawn. Some people thought they were twins the way that they acted. Two years after Sawyer was born Finny was born. Two years after that Harry was born then three years after that Molly was born. By the time that Lanette was done popping out babies Sawyer was six years old.
Even at the age of six Sawyer was an athlete. He loved to play whatever sports his parents could sign him up for and Holden was the same way but he just wasn’t as enthusiastic as Sawyer was. Finny was a troublemaker to say the least and even as a toddler everyone could tell that Harry was the quiet and smart one. Then there was Molly, the only girl in the pool of siblings and she was spoiled rotten by her brothers.
Nothing really tragic happened as Sawyer grew up. He lived a pretty normal life in the suburbs with his family, his mom taught English at a small all girls high school and his father was an accountant. The only major change that happened in the family was when Holden entered high school, Holden’s freshman year he played all the sports but his second year he dropped all the sports and picked up a guitar. Holden, even though the oldest, never really found anything he excelled in until music. A year after Holden learned guitar Sawyer entered high school.
Of course he tried out for any sport he wanted and got in. Football, basketball, and track were his games. He was rather good, not saying that freshman year he was the star of the sports fields but he was well on his way to becoming one. His sophomore year he won the state championship in the 800 meter and 400 meter. His junior year he was starting for both football and basketball and everybody knew that he was good. Of course he made some friends though. Charlie Thompson was a linebacker for the football team, Lucas Peters was point guard for the basketball team, Jimmy Simpson was a year younger and ran track, Tommy Andrews was basically a cheerleader (he went to every game and was usually painted from head to toe and a little drunk), and Nigel Wilson he joined track in hopes to get socialized but it didn’t really work until Sawyer and his gang swooped in and made him one of their own.
Everything was going great for Sawyer, well that was until May 18, 2012. The guys went to a party and before hand played rock paper scissors for designated driver, of course Sawyer lost because if there was one game he was bad at it was rock paper scissors. The party was a rager and to this day Sawyer will never forgive himself for even having the one beer. One beer doesn’t get the six foot four inch hunk of muscle drunk, but it still haunts him to this day because he was the designated driver…
Sawyer was driving on the highway at about three in the morning, his friends wasted out of their minds screaming out the windows and throwing empty beer cans out of the car. For only a second Sawyer looked in the rear view mirror to see Charlie and Lucas singing like some stupid drunks, it was that second that the road took a slight turn, Sawyer over corrected, and the car went rolling into a tree. Lucky for Sawyer there was another car driving by a few minutes later that pulled him out of the car just as the thing went in flames, flames that ate up his right arm too, but were put out as fast as possible.
Sawyer wasn’t even conscious when any of this was happened, the next thing he knew he was lying in a hospital bed a week later with a long gash up his side, a burned right arm, and a few bruises. He asked where the guys were but his mom told him tearfully that they didn’t make it; they were all dead. After he was told about his friends dying he was sedated because he kind of lost it a bit. When he woke up he couldn’t move his legs. The doctors were baffled and for months they ran tests after test. Eventually they diagnosed Sawyer with conversion disorder, his mind was either so psychologically wounded by his friends death or he was somehow unable to cope without having some kind of serious injury so his body gave him a way to deal by making his legs paralyzed.
The doctors didn’t tell Sawyer that though and neither did his parents because everyone agreed that it would probably just make him more depressed and angry. After his month in the hospital his parents took him home, which was plenty hard because each time they tried getting him in the car he would have a sort of panic attack. When they eventually got him home he wasn’t the same, he would stay locked up in his room, he would sulk during meals, and would have fits of anger whenever somebody tried to help him or suggest that maybe he go to physical therapy. Eventually his parents couldn’t handle knowing their son had full potential to walk but psychologically couldn’t, so they decided to send him to Hawthorne. Sawyer is under the impression he’s going for depression and his phobia of cars, but really he’s going so he can walk again. His parents have told everyone he’s going away for physical therapy.
