GEMMA MICHELLE DATON
And If I promise you that I'll be back someday,
will you set me free so I can fly away?

Hey there, glad you could join us. So first thing's first, what do we call you?
Just Gemma is fine. Kind of hard to make a nickname out of that, I suppose, but I like it. It’s simple, kind of pretty.
Okay, got it. And how old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Oh I don’t mind at all. I’m sixteen, which makes me a junior in school.
Mhm and, now don't take this the wrong way, but are you a guy or a girl?
Um..I’m a girl. Was it hard to tell? That seems like an odd question.
And are you straight, gay or...?
I’m straight.
Have we met before? You look so familiar!
I don’t think so. Though I’ve been told I look like Felicity, so that might be it.
Excellent. Now, for the benefit of our readers, how would you describe your appearance?
Well first off, I’m pretty small. Only five foot three and on the slim side. I got dark brown hair, not almost black dark though. Just dark. I have blue eyes and pale pale skin. That’s about it.
And if a stranger had to spot you in a crowd what should they look out for?
Well, I guess I dress pretty feminine. But not that covered in pink and sparkles kind of girly that a lot of girls seem to like. More classic, I suppose.
What's the first thing this stranger would notice about you?
Maybe how small I am? I don’t know. I guess the way I dress is a lot more conservative than most girls my age.
Let's just say this stranger decides to observe you for a bit - any habits or quirks they might notice?
That’s kind of an awkward question, but um. Well I twirl my hair a lot and I chew on my lip when I’m nervous. Aunt Julie hates that I do that.
So this creepy stranger, what would their first impression of your character be?
First impression? Well most people seem to think I’m very quiet and shy when they first meet me.
So, sport, you got any hobbies?
I like music, playing it that is. Well listening to it is nice too, but I play a bit of piano. It’s relaxing. I love dancing. I’ve been doing ballet since I was about six and I still adore it. I like reading too, especially the classics like Jane Austen and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Interesting! And what about the things you like the most?
Things I like the most? Hm...Well ballet, of course. I love my coffee, with lots of milk and sugar. I like dogs, pugs and particular, especially my pug darling. I know this is a little strange but I love flying at night, like the time right when the sun is going down. It looks so pretty to see the sunset from that view. I also like daffodils, the color blue, vanilla coke, and chocolate.
And there's gotta be things you don't like too, right?
Well yes. I don’t like how small and boring my hometown is. I really hate broccoli, and spiders. Spiders are terrifying! So are bees, I really hate bees. Okay most bugs really. Only fireflies and butterflies are acceptable bugs. I don’t like cold weather, thunder storms, rap music, and I know this is strange but I don’t like wearing jeans.
Great! So are you keeping any secrets? Don't worry, I swear I won't tell.
Well I really shouldn’t be talking about this, Aunt Julie gets really embarrassed by this. But my parents are both meth addicts. That’s why I live with Aunt Julie. She just tells everyone that they travel too much cause of work.
My lips are sealed. Now, what would you say is your best quality?
I suppose my best quality would be my friendliness. I’m usually nice to everyone, at least I try to be.
And your worst? C'mon, no one's perfect, kiddo.
My worst quality is definitely how anxious I get. All the worrying and panic attacks. It’s just not good.
Now how about the other people in your life, let's talk family.
Well first of all, I live with my Aunt Julie and Uncle Ned. Uncle Ned is a surgeon at the hospital in town, St. John’s. Aunt Julie is a stay-at-home mom I guess. They don’t have any kids though, just me. I get along with both of them really well most of the time. Aunt Julie is well, a little overprotective sometimes though. As for my parents, they both got arrested when I was only five. That’s when Aunt Julie and Uncle Ned took me in. I don’t remember much about them, and I haven’t seen them or talked to them at all since then. So I don’t really know how to feel about them.
Any pets?
My pug, Darling. I’ve had her since I was eleven. She’s just the best dog ever.
You're doing great, just a few more questions. So where are you from?
I’m from Mount Jackson, Virginia. It’s a quiet little town basically in the country. It’s okay I guess. Kind of boring and most people don’t really leave.
I see, cool. So how come you ended up at Hawthrone?
I have what is called General Anxiety Disorder. I started having the panic attacks at school. Over tiny things, like a test, or talking to a teacher. I started to worry about basically anything that someone could worry about. If something could go wrong, I kept thinking about it. Aunt Julie thought it was best to send me here. She said it would be better because she didn’t want me to get made fun of at school.
Almost done. So anything else we should know about you?
I was born on July 22nd, 1996 in Washington D.C. I guess my early childhood was pretty tough. From what I remember about my mom she tried, but failed quite a lot. I don’t really remember much about my dad at all. I suppose he probably wasn’t all that great either, considering the drugs and all that. Apparently he’s the one that got my mom into it. It’s probably a good thing that I don’t remember much. When I was five, my parents got in some trouble with the police trying to buy more drugs or something. I don’t remember and Aunt Julie won’t talk about it. I was going to be sent into foster care, but Aunt Julie took me in instead. Which I’m very thankful for.
After that, everything got a lot better. I always had food, clean clothes, a nice home, and Aunt Julie and Uncle Ned are really great at the whole parenting thing. Most of the time. I started school that fall, which was good. I always liked school, even as a kid. I met my best friend there, Natasha Wright, she’s at an art school for dance now. Then I started ballet a year later. I guess nothing that important happened after that. Middle school, filled with puberty and stupid mean girls and annoying boys. Then high school, which so far hasn’t been much better. Everything was pretty normal until I started having panic attacks about three or four months ago.
That’s when things got kind of bad. The anxiety got in the way of school a lot. Hard to take tests when you feel like you can’t breathe. I guess some kids started talking about it too. I never paid much attention to that kind of stuff. So Aunt Julie thought it was better that I come here.

Abbey stumbled into her dorm. It had been a long day of classes and then training. She was exhausted and her head felt like it had been kicked by a horse. Pain throbbed with each step she took towards her bed. She fell onto it, not bothering to change into her pjs. She simply pulled off her jeans and her sweater. Pulling the covers over her head she curled up. ”Owww.....” She mumbled into her pillow as she fumbled for her advil pm. It wouldn’t help all that much with the pain, but it would knock her out. Which was all she wanted right now.
She would give away quite a lot to not be conscious at this moment. She would only have to give up a bit of her stomach lining. Ibuprofen on an empty stomach was not kind. Abbey clearly didn’t care anymore. She swallowed two of the pills quickly, then curled up again, her face smashed against her pillow. It took a good thirty minutes before she finally fell asleep, but when she did, she was out. Completely and totally asleep. The type of sleep that brought the best, or in some cases, the worst dreams.
This time the dream was just weird. Abbey found herself in some sort of Alice in Wonderland type scene. There were flowers everywhere, a little bread and butterflies, like in the movie. She was sitting on a patch of dirt, unfortunately in her tank top and underwear. She would have preffered the ridiculous blue dress. Slowly she got up, brushing dirt off her butt. ”Well this is awkward...” She mumbled, looking around. It appeared she was alone. With a sigh and started walking. Out of nowhere a blond boy appeared.
She bumped right into his back. ”Oh I’m sorry...” She bit her lip. ”Do you have any idea where we are?” She blushed a bit, feeling rather exposed in her lack of clothing.
