have you ever wished you were dead sometimes, or that you just didn't deserve to even be on this earth? that's how a young sophomore felt right now. life for her at hawthorne was not something you would want to live in the slightest. the moment the caramel haired girl walked through the doors of this school, her life had only went downhill. and only recently had she felt the worse than she ever had being at this school. she never would have thought a young girl could cause so much damage. and worse, she didn't have to touch her. she made someone she loved do it. she often had nightmares of that day, of the day when a freshman made max rape her. she would have much rather been dead than live through this torment.
abrielle sat in the very back of the library, her head in a random book so no one could see her. she didn't want to be seen. if she were to be seen, she didn't know what she would do. she hadn't been going to classes, which only stacked up more therapy sessions for her. her counselor had been trying to figure out what caused her setback.. she had been doing better ever since the attack on the school, but now she was worse than ever. she was worse than when she even walked into the doors of hawthorne. she shook her head of the thoughts and let out a sigh, putting the earbuds in and turning to domino from jessie j, hoping it would get those thoughts out of her mind. she glanced around her before she placed the book on the table.
her hands opened up her notebook and she sighed, before starting her essay like she was supposed to. it had to be a persuasive essay.. it could be about anything, but she didn't even know what to write about. she stared down at the paper, her pencil not moving an inch. she stayed that way for a long time, before she just scribbled all over the paper angrily. yes, she was angry now. she couldn't think of a thing to write for a paper that was due a long time ago, she was just lucky her teacher gave her time to finish it. she crumpled the paper in her hands before throwing it angrily and letting out a huff. this was never going to get done.

max had never been one to think of killing himself because he had always loved himself far too much for that. but now? he kind of wished he had let the young girl kill him. he rather be dead then have the memories of elle's face, the fear, and the tears. death seemed like a much better option to him right now. the only problem was aria didn't threaten to kill him, she threatened abrielle. either way abrielle would be harmed and he knew he probably choose the wrong answer. because now he was sure the girl he had began to fall in love with, and not just want to use, hated his guts.
yeah his relationship with elle was odd to him, or the pre-aria relationship. well there was no pre-aria relationship, you needed to go all the way back to before halloween. he had begun to fall for her and surprisingly liked it. but the more his mother called and the more he talked to her, the more he realized he really didn't need a relationship. he understood that he was much like his mother but there was one difference. he wouldn't hurt a child or a spouse by just ignoring them and being cold. instead he'd avoid having either and that was why he told her she'd be better without him. but he wasn't better and neither was she.
in a very sober moment he had told her that he loved her and she blew it off with good reasons. she had good reasons to think he was lying with all he put her through and then later put her through more. of course he was going through his own things and he hadn't had a moment of sobriety until today. he had therapy and he never went to therapy drunk, but he did have a major fucking hangover. he sat in front of a desk with glasses on, trying not to hit his therapist over the head for talking so loud. there was too many questions about feelings that he didn't want to answer but before he left he had one thing to say. "want to talk about feelings? how would you feel if you were forced to rape the girl you might love?" he left it at that, and his therapist could eat them up and think about them and shove them up his ass for all max cared.
words meant nothing to max, it was actions that spoke to him. he wasn't a sit around and watch life float him by kidn of guy. he grabbed the bull by its horns and took charge of his life. his life was his life. no one told him what to do but himself. and apparently aria beecher but he wasn't going to dwell on that and as he was walking out of the therapy rooms he saw abrielle walk into the library and followed in behind her but he didn't talk to her at first. he stood behind a shelf of books and looked at them or looked through them and watched his lil grasshopper as she tried to write something and watched her get angry.
after she threw the paper, that was when he walked up to her and sat across from her. "what's got my lil grasshoppers panties in a wad?" yeah he was back to pushing things down and being a bit of a jackass. but who wouldn't want to push the sadness and anger down? he wasn't even angry at aria but at himself for letting a small girl cause so much damage.

abrielle had a fear of men and sex, so when she met max, and was actually able to hold a conversation with him, she was happy. even if their first few conversations were mainly just her insulting him, she didn't fear him. she didn't know why, but she figured it out as they kept talking and seeing each other. her insults turned into regular conversations, then she would actually compliment him. she didn't feel that familiar feeling of nervousness or fear in the slightest, because she was falling for maxwell ralph sheppard. their story would be one you would see in those sappy love stories, where the awkward girl falls for the player and then he drops her one day for no reason. that's what happened to the two of them, but little did abrielle know, that the boy returned the feelings. she just thought it was all a trick.
she had told max everything. how she was abused, and raped, many times by her longtime boyfriend, before he killed her brother in front of her. that's what brought on the fears. as time went on for abrielle, she started to develop a small fear for people, too, after the attack. then hayley attacked her as well, after max broke her heart. she just started to give up on hawthorne, staying in her room and not coming out, not even for class or therapy. it didn't help that people would taunt her in her classes for her fears. she didn't know how they knew, but she didn't care. she just never wanted to be taunted for those fears again. she isn't sure what made her start coming out of her room eventually, but she wished that she never did. if she hadn't have been in the garden that day, then she wouldn't have seen aria, and aria wouldn't have told max to come.. none of this would have happened and she might not be as bad as she is now. she could be better by now, for all we know.
letting out a sigh, she wrote her name at the top of her paper and then, it stopped. she didn't know what to write. at all. she really just wanted to give up, but she wanted to pass.. with a sigh, she finally just sat down the pencil and ran a hand through her hair. that's when she noticed someone coming over to her table. oh no, oh no oh no. maybe if she didn't look up, they wouldn't sit down over here. there were tons of tables in this library, but this wasn't just any person.. this was max, she just didn't know it until they sat down. she still didn't look up at him, because she felt herself begin to panic a little. she knew that he wouldn't do anything to her again, but it was still the fact that it happened.. her breath started to get short, and her eyes dialated a bit, something happened when she got nervous or scared. well, it happened to everyone. finally, she looked up at him just for a moment, her eyes locking with his. that's when her eyes widened a bit and she looked back down, "what do you want?" she asked in a very quiet tone. if she spoke any louder, her voice would break. she wanted to cry just knowing he was here.. she hadn't seen him since that day and her mind started the flashbacks. she blinked a couple times, refusing to relive those moments right now. she couldn't, she wouldn't freak out. not in front of him again.

maxwell came to this school because it was either that or he didn't get the cash from his mom he always looked forward to having. he hated his mother to death but he did love her cash and he couldn't be maxwell ralph sheppard if he wasn't loaded. no, her money was what bought his booze. that and some of his father's cash. either way, booze ended up in his hand and he ended up a good ole happy drunk. he was far from an angry stupid drunk. no when he was drunk, he was very much happy and he kind of just slept instead of worrying about whatever. especially if it was worrying about the baby his mother was going to have. he didn't want someone going through the same damn thing he went through. that wasn't a life for any child what so ever and he didn't want someone to be raised by a cold woman, it was bad enough he was. though there was one problem, he couldn't do anything about it. no one was going to give a alcoholic brother fresh out of highschool with bad grades, a child over the 'perfect' mother. yeah he knew it was worth the try, even if he'd fail at least he would try to save a child's life.
but for now max was sitting in front of a beautiful girl who made him want to cry. the whispers had pained poor max and pulled at something he never thought he actually had.his heart. he wanted to hold her and tell her it was okay, but he knew he was the reason behind this. he caused her so much pain and that was all on him and so he wouldn't touch her. but just speak softly and slowly. "elle," he said, forgetting about the nickname he gave her and just wanting to cheer her up a tiny bit. "i want you." yeah it was the truth and kind of why he sat down and followed her in here. "i also want to know what's got you so angry and maybe i can help." not that he'd be any good at whatever it was she was doing, and he knew that. maxwell plus homework didn't equal each other at all. they were far from each other. at least helping with something was better than ruining everything. that was how max saw it right now. that maybe he could slowly make everything alright again.
he didn't know how to cheer up a person, though sad woman were always max's weaknesses. it was how he stopped being such an ass to elle in general and actually let himself care for another human. never seeing a sad woman before in his life, caused a funny feeling inside him to grow and expand. though it wasn't so funny anymore and kind of normal. it was a sadness and an anger at whatever caused the pain of the beautiful girl in front of him. if that meant him, then he would be angry at himself. he hated causing someone he cared deeply for so much pain because that was his mother's job. then again she never really cared, she just caused pain for the hell of it. he wasn't as cold or heartless as he liked to pretend he was. no maxwell had a heart and it was as warm as any other, the problem was he never showed anyone but one person. abrielle elaine worthy.
she was the only person who ever saw a different side of the alcoholic asshole. she saw the sweet boy who just wanted actual love from a woman. a man who loved to have picnics and drink a little glass of wine with someone he could actually hold a conversation with. to actually have an interesting conversation with a beautiful woman, instead of a drunken one-night stand. abrielle was different then other girls because he wanted to treat her right, yet in the end he treated her far from that and he understood he didn't deserve the girl he loved but he'd still fight for her. that was what he did, he fought for what he wanted.

abrielle really didn't know what love was after her last boyfriend. he had hurt her so much through out their relationship. she thought she was figuring it out with max, slowly, then he broke it off after talking her into coming to that halloween party. but it was like that. you would get your heart broken before you'd find the right person, even if the right person breaks your heart in the long run. she was starting to figure that out, as much as she didn't want to. she never thought that she would fall for max, and she was finally getting to where she could admit it to herself. of course, she was kind of.. afraid of the person that she might love, but atleast she could admit it. it was kind of messed up. she wanted to see him, but she didn't want to see him. her feelings always got messed up and so she just tried to avoid him after the gardens, because she didn't want to be happy, then freak out and be scared.
when he called her by her name, not by the nickname he liked to call her and annoy her with, she couldn't help but look up at him. her eyes locked on his again, and those two feelings came. the fear and also the happiness. she was happy to see him again, but she was scared to see him again, even though she knew that nothing would happen. he didn't even touch her after all that happened, so she knew that he was afraid she would freak out. those three words made her freeze completely for just a second, but it kind of made her smile. just a tiny bit. she didn't know what to say to that, though, "i-..um.." she bit down on her bottom lip. she sounded like an idiot, because she tried to say something when she didn't know what to say. so, she was just going to move on from that, and if he brought it back up, then they could try and talk about it.
she couldn't help but smile a little at how he wanted to help her, but she shook her head, "not offense, but.. if i can't even think of something to write, i know you can't," she said, kind of joking. she knew that he wasn't any good with homework, so it was kind of the truth when she said it. it was nice to know that he cared to know what was making her angry, even if it was something silly. it was different, because she didn't really have anyone here that she could go to. she hadn't bothered to make any friends here, because she was so busy trying to avoid aleksei and cameron ever since she came here. and when she did try to make friends, they turned out to be psychos only wanting to hurt her. sure, max did hurt her.. but she knew that he did it so she wouldn't die, even if she did want to.

max wasn't going to force abrielle to say something about what he said, he was just for once being truthful with her. he was done lying to himself and to her because he didn't fee right when he tried to hide his feelings. it was so much easier to embrace them and think about them. but he would never force her into admitting her feelings or into saying something she didn't mean. no, instead he'd just shrug it off like it was nothing then analyze and over think about it later before forgetting about it with alcohol. it was routine that was slowly beginning to become a boring one at that.maybe today would be different, so he hoped.
just smirking at her loss of words he shrugged when she said he wouldn't be able to help. yeah he wasn't about to take offense to anything that had to do with his inability to do homework. if he wanted to, he could probably ace a class, the problem was he never wanted to apply himself to something that was important like school. no he applied himself to abrielle, or he was going to now. he was done pushing, it was time to woo her again. wooing was max's specialty and now he'd woo someone for good, hopefully. a"no offense taken," he said with a smile, "i know i'm not a novel writer. plus i have no damn clue how to do anything with a hangover as big as mine." yeah, even if he did do homework, now wouldn't be a good time. a big giant headache was not something that went well with concentration.
tapping his fingers, he kind of decided he was tired of leaving things the way they were. no. he was finally ready to talk. to say things he never said before. yeah he somewhat told her that he loved her but that was a different situation and a different time. no, he needed to bring it up because he wanted to hear her say it back. he ached to hear the words coming from her mouth and he ran a hand through his hair and licked his lips. "grasshopper," he said, moving his hand to her the pulling it back after realizing what he was doing. "ellie," he said again, "i love you." yeah it was probably a shit way of saying it and he kind of wished he had a cupcake that said it or something to give her but he would have to wait for that till another time. for now he just had the words that left his lips and hopefully that was enough for abrielle.

abrielle just frowned at him when he mentioned him having a hangover. she didn't like how much he would drink. she wasn't one of those girls that was completely against drinking. she drank every once in a while, but not as often as max would. he did it to forget things, she knew, and she didn't like how much, and how often, that was, "really, max?" she asked, shaking her head at him. usually, she would try to help someone who had a hangover, but right now, she just couldn't bring herself to even give him some remedies or anything. of course, she didn't blame him for drinking as much as he had lately, with what they've been through. if she had alcohol, she probably would have drank herself into forgetting about things for a while, but it doesn't help when the memories come back the next morning with a terrible hangover. maybe she should just stick to her staying in her room and crying. yeah, that sounds like a good idea.
she pushed some hair behind her ear and bit down on her bottom lip when it turned quiet between them for a minute. this was worse than any other part of their relationship that they had. because of what happened between them, it seemed very tense to her, which it was. because she still didn't quite know what to think about max anymore. she knew he did what he thought he had to do, but the fact that it hurt her so much, it brought her fears to new levels.. she didn't know how well she could handle being close to him. she seemed to be handling it okay right now, though. he called her by that nickname and she didn't know if she should roll her eyes, or just let him get away with calling her that for once. her eyes shot down to seeing his hand moving to her and she kind of moved her hands back towards her. she didn't want to be touched. she looked down after that. she didn't want to see a sad face, if he made one, from that simple move away from him. that's when those three words fell from his lips. yes, he had said it once before, but they were in a bad situation at the time.
she looked up at him and didn't say anything for a minute or two. it was just silence, which would usually give someone a bad sign. she didn't have to contemplate on whether she loved him or not, because she did. finally, she smiled the tiniest bit and the words came out of her mouth, "um.. i.. i love you too," she said, quietly.

maybe mentioning his hangover was a really bad thing. actually, he was kind of hoping she'd get pissed off because it meant she still cared about him. the first time he seen her since he left her at the halloween party, he raped her and now here they were. it kind of hurt him because he wanted her to see how much he cared about her. he beat himself up everyday since the halloween party and everyday since aria. he even mentally beat up aria but the girl still seemed so small and fragile, he knew no matter what he wouldn't do that in real life. so instead he stuck to dreaming about it..about standing up and knocking the girl out and taking elle away from this place and living happily ever after. before the aria thing, sex had been involved in quiet a few of his abrielle dreams.
those were his favorite because he hadn't done anything to cause her pain. he left her and the dreams were of him confessing his love for her and whisking her away fromthis place to have make sweet passionate love with her. now? he couldn't even think of her like that because it caused a pain to shoot through his heart. he hated not speaking or seeing her or protecting her and it made him want to kill himself. okay, not really. no matter what happened, maxwell still loved himself far too much to ever think of suicide as an answer to his problems. no right now his answer was to get abrielle to realize he loved her. what they would do after that, well who knew.
the silence kind of creepedup and scared the living shit out of max and as he was about to stand up and apologize, well she spoke. the words made max freeze. he wasn't sure why he was frozen in place, this was the answer he wanted but he didn't think of what he would do after that. actually he never thought that those words would come out of her lips, because of everything he did to her. "wha.." he shook his head and smiled, unable to keep it off his lips and that was when he stood up and walked over to the other side of the table and ran a finger down her cheek and sighed. "i love you," he said again, just to feel the words come off his lips again and smiled brightly.

it had been a long time since abrielle had said those three words to someone. if she said it, you would know for sure that she meant it. she knew that there was no doubt in her mind that she loved that boy, maxwell ralph sheppard. it had been hard for them, and it seemed that life just didn't want them to be around each other, but now.. it seems that they've broken through that. she kind of surprised herself when she said 'i love you' back to max, because she didn't think that she could do it. but she did and she didn't regret it for one moment. he was different from her last boyfriend.. she knew it within her heart. even though she was still getting over what happened between them and aria, she knew that he didn't do what he did because he was mean, or because he wanted to take that from her.. but to save her, even though she didn't want to be saved.
in the long run, she knew that she would thank him for not letting aria end her life, but right now, that subject. . that thought tender and she didn't want to bring it up. she didn't know if they should even talk about that day, and honestly, she was fine with not talking about it. she knew, however, that they would talk about it eventually.. sometime in the future, but she didn't think that she would ever be ready for that day. she shook her head of those thoughts and looked over at himm, as he let it process that she had actually said it back. she let a small smile come to her pink lips as he let out a 'wha..' obviously, he didn't expect her to say it back either.
abrielle watched as he stood up and walked over towards her. she felt her breath try to hitch in her throat, but she told herself to calm down. that it was only max, he wasn't going to do anything. she surprised herself when she didn't flinch away from his touch, smiling a little bit more. she looked up at him, watching him curiously at everything he did, he said. how his face changed and he smiled brightly. the smile was contagious, and so her smile brightened as she looked up at him. she let out a quiet laugh as he repeated himself, "i love you too, max," she said again, but this time in a stronger voice, not stuttering once as the words slipped from her lips.

max was pretty sure he didn't want to talk about the aria thing right now. or anything at all about their past. they probably needed to discuss it at some point to make their relationship work but now wasn't the time to be laying everything out on the tables. not when they only just finally spoke the three words they needed to speak for some time now. yes, the boy realized he did hurt her on halloween but he also hurt himself that day. he just didn't realize it then how much he was really beginning to care about the girl because he didn't want to hurt him and with is family's past..he knew it was bound to happen so he ended it before anything happened where they connected too much. or so he thought..he was just a tad bit too late because both him and elle were already fully invested in the other, just not fully aware of that. not until they both realized how sad and hurt they were without the other.
when she didn't cringe away from his touch, well it seemed like the happiest moment in his life. there was nothing really to compare to the happiness radiating through him now. not even alcohol or sex compared to this moment right here. he was touching the girl he was in love with and she was cringing or running the other way and he wasn't using her. but he was really in love and she was really here. what more could a person ask for? he really had nothing more to ask for and that alone was a good enough for him because it meant he might finally be able to truly be happy.
he smiled once more when she said that she loved him again, "i'm glad." he wanted to kiss her but he wasn't sure if it was really the right time? not after aria..and he already crossed a line with the touching and it wasn't really good to cross two lines in one day, so he dropped his hand from he cheek and instead planted a soft kiss where his hand once was and smirked a bit. "i knew you couldn't resist me for long little grasshopper," he said, leaning against the table. she would always be his little grasshopper, "by the way i think this means i won?" he couldn't remember but he was sure he told her once that he would get her to actually like him? love was never in the equation but then again, he never felt he was capable of the feeling. until now of course.
